Basij forces are at first unable to get past the university's gates until Revolutionary Guard special forces come to their assistance. As the BBC reporter says in Farsi, it is later the more humane of the Basiji who tell the Special Guards to stop with the excessive beatings, but to no avail; five students were murdered that fateful night.
